Greetings, I have a 1500 Ram & the rear end locked up on me about 1.5 mo. ago. Lot worse. I was going down the road about 35 mph & it locked up. The large rod holding the gears together broke. What a mess. Yes the axle clips could have come loss or the big pinion nut is loose. Best let Dodge check all. Mine was covered under the epp. when mine happen. 4100.00 dollars. I had to pay 50.00. What a savings that was. A new rear end was installed.. Good luck...

@RamedHemi. I have read of the rear e- brake shoes friction material, delaminating from the shoes. Don't know if this would cause a lock up in the rear??
It'd certainly make noise in both forward/reverse directions I would assume.

Sure it could, but I do think the ebrakes are a more likely situation... Let us know how you make out.

Also, why did you double post?
Any repair that is found not be covered under warranty is charged a diagnostics fee.

I merged the other posts into this thread.

OP, your history shows numerous multiple threads regarding same questions. Please keep similar topics you discuss in the same thread. Thanks.

I have this same issue with my 08 QC 4x4. It only happens when it is wet outside and I'm backing up. My mechanic thinks the drum brake is hanging up. He told me to pull on the cable at the drum to see if it will move. Haven't done this yet. I've read that it is a pain to replace the shoes that are inside the disc rotor. By the book the rear axle needs to be pulled, but I've also read where someone did it without removing the axle.

Default Problem Found!!!

Sorry guys havent been on in a while. I found the problem!!! It was the e brakes shoe. It fell off the metal and was loose in there. I saw where it was getting wedged and stopping the truck. Ordering new shoes and hardware. Hope it isnt a nightmare job

So do you have to remove the rear axles to change the e brake shoes?

Pretty much. I spent hours trying to do it around the hub, and it's a b*tch. Ultimately, I paid my small town mechanic $200 to do it, and got the diff oil changed as part of the job. He did both rear parking breaks, pads, rotors, and calipers. I already had the parts purchased, all he charged for was axle seals, oil, and time.

I know that improvements were made to the 2006 and up rear ends, specifically the retainer clip issue.

I think it's much rarer to have the retainer clip issue with the 2006 and up.
