Default "lamp light out" stays on

2003 dodge ram 1500 4wd 4dr short bed- all lights are working now

I had a plug to the license plate light malfunction so I replaced it but did not replace the other plug that goes into that one where you need to splice wires and it works fine now but the lamp light out warning light will not go off. I unplugged the battery to try and reset it and it did not help. any idea's?
thanks steve

Are you sure you don't have another faulty bulb elsewhere? 3rd Brake light maybe?

I know the older models 2002-2005 had problems with the electrical boards in the tail lights. They go bad, start cooking bulbs rather quick and they set off the lamp out light on dash even when bulbs are working.

I have the same issue with my 2005 2500 Ram, the light will come off and on every now and then and some times stay on for a while, the bake lights work and there is no blown bulb, I am at a loss so if I can get any real help that will be helpful.

Thanks guys in advance. .

the only other thing I can think of is when I bought the plug that the bulb plugs into I also bought the other plug that snaps into that one but did not change it because the light came on without replacing it {it was a $30 little plug} and it needed to be spliced into the main wires to replace it. so maybe I will put that on and see if it helps.
thanks and if this works I will let you know and also for helping me where to post a question atleast I hope I am right now.

Try using the electric grease on the bulb contacts. Its solved my problem.

I went to AutoZone and talked with one of my guys who had the same truck, it was the light bar that attaches all three of the bulbs on the brake light. The board was shorted out but still was functioning. I got a volt meter and found which one was defective. After that it was a simple as switching them out and $15. . .Lots of trouble for a cheap part. . .
