Default Largest/widest tire on stock 17" rims

Hey all
I was wondering what is the largest and widest tire that can be put on the stock 17"- five spoke aluminum rim. That is without lifting the truck too. I hear everyone say that this is a 17 X 8 ich rim but cannot find it written down, short of pulling the rim off and then the tire and measuring the width. Does anyone know the true width??. I will eventually get a new wheel/tire combo, but thats later. For now I'll just stick with these rims. I added a picture of the rim on my truck. You'll have to play with the sizing to see a good picture of it.

H-out

P.S. This is my "Brandi" the one that was crushed, the cost went from 8K to 12K after all was said and done to it. Thank god for insurance, wheww.

Yeah, 17x8's (about 9" outside to outside).

To find the largest tire size for your rim width go to tirerack.com or similar and start with your stock tire size, then commence looking at wider and wider tires. It will show the wheel width-range for mounting each size tire. However, you really don't want to be completely at the extreme for any tire. Hence, you will note that a wheel width is given more toward the center of the published width-range for the other of the stated widths specs (tread and sidewall).

The other consideration is tire diameter. Too big and you'll screw up the speedo, unless you reset it with an aftermarket programmer. Given the room under the wheel wells I can't believe you'd have a clearance problem unless you've lowered your truck.

Hope this helps.

All the best.
