Default 4x4 won't engage

04 ram 1500 quad cab. 4.7l
It has a lever for the 4x4.
With a 2 inch level if that makes a difference
The lever moves smoothly and goes into 4high and 4low but the t-case doesn't seen to be engaging the gears all the way. At full lock, the front wheels kind of ticks. It's not the normal feeling it should be while in4x4

Are there any common issues with this year or are there any places I should start looking.

Climb underneath and check the linkage rod, the two rubber bushings wear out and fail. If the rubber completely goes the linkage can actually fall off. Mine came off while coming back from an off-road fishing trip a few years ago. New bushings are about a buck a piece.

You can check the transfer case by manually moving the shifter on the t-case itself while under the truck...

I figured it out today. The shaft on the driver side that comes out if the differential. It's a splined shaft that goes into the cv axles was stripped pretty badly somehow.
