Default 04 ram no power to run fuel pump

I have a 2004 ram 1500 with a 5.7. I dropped the tank to replace the o ring on the fuel pump, was leaking gas.

Installed the tank and the truck will not start? I dropped the tank and removed the pump again.

What I have is no power to the pump..I do have a hot wire to run the float but nothing to run the pump..... orange wire.

I checked the no 17 fuse, removed and tested all of them all are good... moved the relays around still nothing?

On the relay No 87 is hot and 86 and 87 are hot with the key on.

I ran a wire off the battery to the pump orange wire and the pump starts pumping.

Any one run into this thoughts ?

I suggest you check the wires- you probably cut a wire off by dropping the tank. happens.
can't be far- and it's not too complicated. the wiring runs in a plastic tube under the car- the cut should not be too far back- the plastic tube is split open- just pull the wires out and check. when you found it- make sure you fix the wire with sqieze- connectors and put a shrink hose over it to prevent water intrusion and corrosion- you will not believe- i have seen water from a cracked ABS Sensor wire dripping out in the fuse box. never underestimate the capilary effect.
good luck.

Thanks for the reply's. I run a new fused wire down from the panel that works with the key for the time being.

I'll get to the bottom of this as time permits...I probably have a thousand launch and retrieves of boats in salt water, it's a wonder any thing still works
