New Truck - New Section
Hey Everybody
Last weekend I managed to sell my 05 Dakota and the next day found a 2002 Ram QC with half the mileage (49,000mi) for basically the same price! The truck is incredible, the original owner factory spec'd it and babied it from day one (also didn't hardly drive it in 12 years). He even kept the dealer brochures and books from 2002! It's like stepping back in time and driving a brand new truck.
....uuuuuntil I went to wire a new radio and speakers! Got the new radio in and couldn't figure out why the rear drivers speaker wouldn't work. Checked the wire loom off the head unit, then figured the factory speaker was just toast so replaced it with new and still nothing.... started back tracing the wires from the door and freaked when I saw the rubber wire chase from the pillar to the door had been cut open and zip-tied shut. When I opened it up EVERY WIRE was cracked and split, some of them had actually come apart!! Obviously there's more the story here because somebody went in there and clamped some butt connectors on a few of the wires that had obviously already broke. It took me 3 hours to remove the wire harness, resolder and seal all the broken wires and reinstall. I've never seen wiring do this before in my life. Now checking all exposed connections for the same problem.
Still love my truck, and definitely looking forward to learning and participating in a new section on DF!

Yup,
It happens, must be from being worked with opening and closing the doors. I had to do the same repairs on the white dually in my sig when installed my pioneer and speakers.
Sucks, but happens. They buy a lot of less then adequate supplies these days to stretch the profit margin
