Exclamation someone has to know something....

I have an 02 Ram 1500 quad cab with the sport package, 5.9L, 4x4. i have been having shifting issues for almost 2yrs now. Sometimes it will shift ok , sometimes shifting back and forth between gears constantly , and other times (like right now) it refuses to come out of first gear. it has a cert. reman'd tranny (put in about 2 months ago). output speed sensor has been changed twice and both times it run great for about a day or two, then right back to the same issues. I cleared the codes then drove it down the road. when it shifted funny i looked down and the "check engine" light came on but the "abs" light came on at the exact same time. I pulled over and checked for codes to see what code was setting off the light...."output speed sensor circuit malfunction". This thing is driving me crazy! The "tps" has been replaced but it still has a random high idle (also not idle never stays steady), the rear end has been rebuilt after looking up on me, speedometer randomly quits working and the overhead info center also only works when it wants to. Not sure if ANY of that makes a difference with the "shift issues" but I've learned that sometimes anything can be connected lol. Can anyone help????

Check your wiring to the speed sensor. If that checks out, check fluid level. My want to take it back to the trans shop. What was the reason for replacing?

So you have had the issue for 2 years although you had a fresh trans installed 2 months ago. Cool.

At least you know that's not it.

How are you pulling your codes by the way?

Thanks for the input. Sorry it has taken so long to reply. I was having trouble logging back in. I have been pulling the codes by a standard hand held OBD2 but the trans shop also pulled the same code with there "fancy" expensive programmable one. I have been able to follow the wires up to the top of the fire wall to that wire cluster rail that goes across there but end up losing them in the mess.

When i first bought it the tranny went out (next day) due to the dealer not checking the fluid level (which there wasn't ANY in it) so they replaced it with a used one out of an '03 durango. I thought that that was why I was having so much trouble with it but when the tranny housing broke allowing the transfer case to land on the rock guard, I knew it was time to replace it....again. So i went with a cert. reman. for my truck just to rule that out but still had the erratic shifting and gone to not shifting at all....

The overhead info center only works when it wants to and the hitch wiring has stopped working as well. don't know if there is any relation but figured I'd give the info.

Ok, so I unhooked the positive cable for bout an hr and hooked it back up. It shifted fine despite the "check engine" light coming back on, for about 40 miles and now back to not shifting again....any thoughts????

You need to have a tuner or scanner plugged in to the truck and find out that corfed are stored (why the CEL light is on)

Only then can we help more
