My 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 V8 has this error code. I read in some places that you could clean everything out an that would settle the issue. It seems to not have worked for me. Is there anything else that I might try before buying a new EGR valve or taking it in to a shop? This is my first thread, so if there is anymore information that you might need just let me know.

 

EGR is easy to replace. Buy you a new valve, and do it yourself.

 

I've never had any luck cleaning one. Best I've done is buy off a month or so without a CEL. Advance Auto, American made for about $30. Fifteen to twenty minute swap...

 

Yep,what they said.This is a common issue with these trucks.EGR was the first thing I had to replace on mine(not first owner).Just a couple of bolts.

 

I cleaned the EGR valve on my 300C a year or so ago. My Mazda threw an P0401 code. I just cleared it. It hasn't popped up again.

 

Yeah Thanks everyone! I think I will replace it and let everyone know how that goes. When I was mulling it over on whether to buy it or just clean it out someone walking into Orielly saw me checking the code and just told me to clean it out really quick so I thought I would try that first.

 

Hey just letting everyone know that swaping the valve didn't help anything. Its still has the engine light and still making the same noise. So I atleast know that its not the valve anymore. the clicking noise sounds like its coming from something right below it though. I am not sure what it is. Also, I can only rev up to just under 4000 RPM. Don't know if that helps narrow things down a bit, but that is about what I know.

 

So I just got some advice and the exhaust manifold has a leaky gasket.

 

You sure the manifold doesn't have a stripped bolt or two???

 

Could that just happen?
