Default A/C electrical problems

I am Reading with a multi meter 12.53 volts to the plug on the compressor. Soon as I touch it with a test light it drops to zero. I ran a jumper wire straight from the battery to the compressor and it works fine.

Doesn't the A/C clutch work on the same basis as an ignition coil? As soon as the voltage hits the primary it energizes the electromagnet and the clutch engages.

Have you checked the A/C condenser fan? It sounds like you aren't getting your signal to the compressor. If the fan doesn't turn on then the A/C usually won't turn on. I'm certainly no A/C or electrical expert but I've had problems in the past though.
