I am no longer able to shift into 1st or 2nd gear in my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 3.7L 2WD with manual transmission. About four months ago, my shift lever became very loose and just wobbled up and down, back and forth. This was more pronounced in 1st, 3rd, and 5th, while the 2nd, 4th, and Reverse had more resistance and seemed to engage as it normally would. Yesterday, I lost 1st and 2nd gear completely. The shift lever is loose on that side, and there is no resistance up or down. It almost seems at times that Im able to get into one of the gears, but it doesnt completely engage and my truck will lose power. Ive really got to get this taken care of quickly, as Im sure taking off in third gear isnt good for my clutch. Im also hearing some winding, grinding noises when i take off from third. I cant be sure thats coming from the transmission or not though. I looked up and down the threads, but only found posts for 4x4 or automatic transmission.
