Red face Heater problems! Help please!

My step fathers 07 quad cab 4.7. Heater only half works. Everything seems fine but the heater temp is low. The door looks to be shutting.
Any ideas on anything else to check?

Common problem maybe as my moms 99 has the same problem.

Could be the heater core itself. Have to remove dash to get to it.

I was told if you feel both hoses under the hood and they both feel the same warm or hot temp then the heater core is alright.

It could be either a clogged heater core or a failing thermostat.

The top hose is hot the bottom warm. I figured that would be normal due to the heat being pulled from the core.

It does look like there's a fuzzy black film on the left side of the core. Could be mildew or black foam insulation that's deteriorated. How ever the out put from the vents feel pretty good volume wise.

Auto zone says it's a ceramic switch that's under the dash held in by two screws. Because it has a smell kinda like brake pads burning. ( its not hot feeling, but the cooper connectors look like they have been ) I don't think it's antifreeze smell and theres non dripping anywhere.

Ideas?

Per the Service Manual, possible locations or causes of obstructed coolant flow are as follows:
  • Inoperative water pump.
  • Inoperative thermostat.
  • Pinched or kinked heater hoses.
  • Improper heater hose routing.
  • Plugged heater hoses or supply and return ports at the cooling system connections.
  • Plugged heater core.
If proper coolant flow through the cooling system is verified, and heater outlet air temperature is low, a mechanical problem may exist.

Possible locations or causes of insufficient heat due to mechanical problems are as follows:
  • Obstructed cowl air intake.
  • Obstructed heater system outlets.
  • Blend-air door(s) or actuator(s) not functioning properly.
  • Faulty blower motor system
  • Inoperative A/C-heater control
Hopefully this will provide assistance in diagnosing the issue.
