Bridgestone tires - Should I be worried?
Just put on a new set of Bridgestone Dueler Alenza's 275 55/20. I've read a lot of good and bad about Bridgestones but Consumer Reports rated them one of the best behind Michelin and one other brand.
The day after I bought them, a co-worker had a sidewall blow out on one of the Bridgestones on his car. So now I'm really nervous, although he had 40k on his. I realize a lot of negative reviews come from folks that don't maintain proper tire pressure, balance, etc. but I still don't feel comfortable and although the ride is smooth and comfortable it just doesn't feel quite right. My other choice were the Kumho Ecsta's but they had to order them.
So I'm wondering if I should go back and get the Kumho's or maybe Yokohama's.

I wouldn't worry about them. They sell a ton of tires with very few issues. Personally, I don't like them, though. The only set I ever bought I had problems keeping them balanced and the belts separated on one with only 8000 miles on it.
I've posted to that many times and every time I do there are dozens of guys who swear by them who post they've had tremendous experiences with them and would buy nothing else...

I had 10kmi on my Coopers and when I pulled them off for new tires, one of my rims was bent. These rims only had 15kmi on them. Apparently it was from a pothole. So, if a rim can bend with no visible defects to the tire, that must mean the tire took a harsh impact. 40kmi of harsh impacts could definately cause the sidewall to rupture and blow out.
I would not worry.
I had stock Bridgestones on a Nissan pickup I bought brand new in 1996. The tires developed sidewall issues with large bubbles forming. I took them to a Bridgestone tire center and the jerkoffs there claims I'd been hitting curbs and wouldn't honor the warranty. I replaced them with other rubber, then, while waiting for the repo man to come get the truck, one tire had a bubble form that grew larger with each passing warm Oklahoma day until it blew.
This was well before the Ford/Firestone fiasco with Ford Explorers; however, I will never run Bridgestone/Firestone tires on a vehicle ever again. The tire shop that outfits my vehicles understand as the main service guy who helps me doesn't like them either.
Run them for a while and then swap to something you like.
