Default bad wheel speed sensor problems?

I have a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and it was having problems engaging the 4 wheel drive. i took it to the dealer and they said it was the left front wheel speed sensor that was bad and thats why it won't engage. Has anyone ever had this problem and could that be why the 4 wheel won't engage? It goes in sporadically when it wants to and its becoming a pain in the *** not knowing if the 4 wheel drive is going to work or not. PLEASE HELP!!

changed wheel sensor that dealer siad was bad and while under the truck I pulled the plug on the transfer case and stuck my finger in there. It says you should be ablem to touch fluid right at bottom on filler hole I put my finger in and bent it down as far as I could reach and no fluid!! would that cause the transfer case be difficult to engage ?

OK I took out the drain plug and only about a little over a quart drained into the pan and it was pretty dirty. I filled it with fresh fluid took it for a drive and came back and checked it and topped it off. took it back out for test drive and it is shifting in and out now without any apparent problems. I noticed before I did this that when it did engage and I turned off the 4 wheel drive it took a bit before it totally disengaged. But now when i turn off the 4 wheel drive it is out right away. Hopefully this has solved the problem and thank you for the help!
