I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad, small V8. It has been treated very well and has no mechanical probelms. The vehicle has 43,000 miles on and it is runing great. However, just two days ago the emission light on the dash has come on and stayed on. I did some reseach and learned how to check the error codes. The odometer on the dash gave a code of P0456. It means a very small leak has been detected in the evaporative purge system. Can anyone direct me to where I should be looking in the engine for this problem.

Check for leaks in some small hoses or fittings. Some times you can spray a little eather around and hear the idle come up alittle Good luck

 

There is an SB# 1800203 that covers this. The dealer must reprogram your PCM to repair the problem if they find no actual leaks. This is covered in a warranty that is mandated by the EPA. reprogramming is repairing the OBD computer which has an 8 year warranty per the EPA. here are the links.
