Default Need help

I just got up under my truck tonight and found this. A 1" hose that supposeto connect to a very small filter to the left of the driveshaft up towards the front of it. The part that holds the hose and filter end piece broke. What is this and is something major that i need fixed right away or is it minor?

Diff vent hose will be back by the diff, not at the front of the drive shaft. Vent hoses aren't usually 1". The ones on my truck are no bigger than 3/8". I wonder if it's an evaporative emissions hose. The canister is near the front of the drive shaft on the driver's side.
