How many quarts transmission fluid
I dropped the pan the other day to change fluid. Guy at part store said you should not need more than 4 quarts. So I put all 4 in and a .5 quart of additive. Drove it around not even reading on stick. I added 2 more quarts and its reading at the cold level when engine is hot. I looked around pan its bone dry, I am checking it on level ground with the truck running. I can't tell if it would need another quart or there is some leak somewhere. Any one change their's and know how many quarts it took.
Mine is a 03 ram 1500 4.7 L 4WD |
Need way more than 4. I'm not sure of the correct count, but I guarantee it's more than 4. Don't put additives in there either. Hopefully you put ATF+4 in there also. The wrong fluid will cook it.

talk about a lazy parts guy.. all he had to do is look it up on his computer...
amount and type... around here,, Advanced Auto and Napa.. as soon as you ask for transmission filter and gasket (Trans Service kit) , they volunteer the extra data. Here.. on this forum..... https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...uid-specs.html every thing you need to know for service stuff.. |
Mine took 8 quarts. But I let it drain overnight. FYI. The trans fluid level should be at the full mark ONLY if the trans is at 180 degrees. Don't overfill.

I bought nine quarts and used seven. Additive? What additive?
