Default How many quarts transmission fluid

I dropped the pan the other day to change fluid. Guy at part store said you should not need more than 4 quarts. So I put all 4 in and a .5 quart of additive. Drove it around not even reading on stick. I added 2 more quarts and its reading at the cold level when engine is hot. I looked around pan its bone dry, I am checking it on level ground with the truck running. I can't tell if it would need another quart or there is some leak somewhere. Any one change their's and know how many quarts it took.

Mine is a 03 ram 1500 4.7 L 4WD

Need way more than 4. I'm not sure of the correct count, but I guarantee it's more than 4. Don't put additives in there either. Hopefully you put ATF+4 in there also. The wrong fluid will cook it.

amount and type...

around here,, Advanced Auto and Napa.. as soon as you ask for transmission filter and gasket (Trans Service kit) , they volunteer the extra data.

Here.. on this forum.....

Mine took 8 quarts. But I let it drain overnight. FYI. The trans fluid level should be at the full mark ONLY if the trans is at 180 degrees. Don't overfill.

I bought nine quarts and used seven. Additive? What additive?
