Opinions or advice on the 4.7 engine
I'm looking at buying a 1500 Ram with the 4.7 lump, I have heard a few bad reports, but overall is it a decent engine, what are your views....Thanks
Good motor, be on the lookout for the notorious seeping head gasket around the 100k mile mark. Other than that, my only complaint is lack of aftermarket support in comparison to the other Dodge/Chrysler power-plants.
Some owners have swapped pieces from other 4.7l variants to gain power/torque. Only the K&N filter and a Dynomax exhaust have been installed on mine. The exhaust was only because I bounced the stock muffler off of a boulder. As for my style of driving; Family hauler to and fro, with the occasional Hunt/Scouting trip in the AZ High country and trail rides to remote camp sites that make jeep owners cringe (got some "Arizona Pin Striping" and "bruises" to prove it).
Looking forward to reaching the 200k mile mark with this one...but by then, we'll be swapping in a newly rebuilt drivetrain only because it will be handed down to my son at that time.

Good engine. There is a lot of after market parts for them, You just need to know where to look. I'm at the 1300000 mark with no real major issues. I've pulled way more with the truck than people say it can. Don't get me wrong,It's no hemi. but it will do what you want it to do when needed.
