Rack and pinion failure.
I have an 2002 ram 1500 with 20" xds with 305s and 3 inch front lift, and 2 inch rear lift. The rack and pinion blew all of its seals out of the driver side and leaked all the power steerin fluid out of the boot. I am pretty sure it failed because of the height adjustment. Is there something I can do or add to keep the hight of my truck without having to worry about blowing the seals again?
Lift, larger tires, heavy 20" wheels all work to wear down front end components faster. That said, I had 35" tires on 4" of lift for almost 10 years on my '04, IFS 1500 and although I had to replace tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints, wheel bearings and CV axles, I never had a hint of a leak out of the rack.
Your rack is going on 14 years old. Replace it, odds are you'll never have a problem again...
