Default oil change message keeps coming on

I have a 2007 2500 6.7L. Recently, my "Oil Change Required" message keeps coming on, even though I just changed the oil and filter.

My oil changes (at the message) have been 5, 6, 7000 mile intervals. The change before the last one was in August. The last one was early December. When I logged the information into my record (I have made a spreadsheet, if anyone would be interested in using it), I noticed that it had been only about 1400 miles (I have been riding the train to work, so I don't put a lot of miles on the truck).

Since that change, the message came back on (maybe 100 miles). While I thought that was odd, I reset the message. In another week or so, the message came back on again.

Any ideas as to why the message may keep coming back on? It's no problem resetting it, but I worry if there is some reason why it is giving me the message. Oil pressure is fine.

Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks. Bill

Welcome to the forum, Bill. Have you been able to check the actual oil consumption when this light is turning on? If not, it may be good to have an oil consumption test performed.

When I changed the oil, it did not appear to be less than around 12 quarts. I just checked the level and it is still full. I have never noticed any smoke.

Bill.
