Default Topping Off Coolant

So my '08 1500 with 4.7L is a little low on coolant (so is wifes town and county). So I was looking to get some to top it off to ensure that it wont overheat or anything on an upcoming road trip (2 days away).

Both of our manuals call for the same coolant since they are both MOPAR vehicles. So it should be easy to get one jug of it and then top them both off.

The color fluid that is in both cars looks pink. I've looked online at various auto stores and I can't seem to find anything pink that meets the standards of the coolant needed. I did read somewhere the Zerex G-05 is allowable in our vehicles but the color is yellow. Would it hurt to mix the two?

I don't want to drive over 1,500 miles with it sitting low but at the same time I can't afford to have the whole system flushed right this minute. I've read in some places that as long as you are mixing compatible types the color shouldn't matter much. I've talked to the dealership and I'm waiting on word back from them to see if they have the pink stuff in stock.

Thanks for all the help.

Look at the bottles. Should state if compatible. Or ask the parts place.

Just to top it off, I'd use distilled water. The dealer will use water also, but not distilled.

Once upon a time the color was used to quickly tell what type of coolant was used. The differences in the coolants were about the type of metal the coolant would come in contact with. Older types of coolant weren't compatible with aluminum or magnesium and would cause corrosion of these metals. The newer coolants are formulated to be compatible with these metals and all you need to verify is: if it's compatible with newer models as most have several types of metal used in their systems. Hope this helps.
