Two electrical questions
I have a new 2005 Ram 2500 with Cummins to replace my 1998 of the same type, which a guy just bought sight unseen for 14K and flew from Illinois to Mass. to pick it up. I'm in the process of moving the Fisher plow unit to the new truck and I have two electrical questions, one very easy and the other harder. Here goes:
First, how do I connect a wire into one of the unused circuits in the fuse box. Is there an easy way to plug it in somewhere without even needing to use a fuse tap. The fuse box is up front, in front of the battery, but when I take the cover off, I don't have access for pluggin in new wires as far as I can see.
Second, when I finished connecting up all the plow wires, including the lights (original Fisher Minuteman style from 97-98), every light works fine, but the dash shows the "light out" warning. What could be triggering this and is there a way to deal with it?

Well, I have a 94 that I had to wire in a bunch of electronics to as I use the pickup for spraying crops with GPS guidance and power to run the options of the sprayer. So, I don't use fuse taps either. What I did was run a wire from the + terminal in the maxi fuse box by the battery that the positive lead from the battery runs to, to a Short Stop then ran power from that. It was originally used for a trailer brake system. I am not sure how many leads you need to run though. I also installed (don't know what it is called) something that has a turn key. I ran an additional lead from the positive terminal off the battery to one post on this device then connected my other wires to the other post on the same device. The idea behind the turn key is that it cuts power off to those devices past it when you take the key out. Suppose to help keep your battery fresh and also a theft deterant. I don't know, but I liked it because I could turn the power off to my attatchments when not using them. I also added inline fuses to the equipment I was running off that turn key device. I think NAPA and places that sell battery accessories like that would have them. I got mine from a place called battery warehouse along with the extra length of battery cable I needed. I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO DO IT THOUGH. I haven't had any problems with it and 2 years of use this way. Not sure if I explained it well either so might want to talk and get some input from others before you go ahead with it. Can't help on the lights issue, not that much of an electrician or troubleshooter.
