P0868 code, occasionally
I have a 2005 2500 with a 5.9. Last summer pulling a 14,000# rv, I was forced into an abrupt stop, combination braking and down shifting the auto tranny. When traffic started moving again, I had trouble getting started, which I now know is because the transmission did not shift down to first gear. Now, 6 months later, I have more understanding of what is happening, but am getting very little help from the local dealer or my trusted tranny shop. I can pull a P0868 code from the OBDII, but it has never thrown a light. When stuck in 3rd at a stop light, the only way to get to first is to shut the truck off or 5-10 seconds, how ever long it takes for the computer to power down, and restart the truck, and everything works normal. This is a random problem and so far only happens when pulling a trailer, but not every time I pull a trailer. The Dodge dealer wants to replace the valve body for $1500, they think, but they need to see it while failing, which at this time is pretty much impossible to do. My trusted tranny shop does not think it is the whole valve body because like me, he is puzzled about it working fine after shutting off and re starting the truck. He wants to be able to put his computer on when it is failing and see what gear the truck computer is telling the transmission to be in. I have an Innova 31703 code scanner that does live streaming, but does not give any information on the transmission. Is there a code reader that will do live streaming on my transmission for under $500 that I can buy my self to get a better grasp on what exactly is going on with my truck? It has 110,000 trouble free miles on it, except for a cracked manifold last year, but this transmission issue is a head scratcher. Thanks for any help, sorry for writing a book, Mike
They need to see it while it is acting up, and so far that only happens when I am pulling my trailer, that is why I am after a scan tool that does live trans data, I think I have found an affordable pc scanner finally do I can be hooked up while pulling and see what is happening when it is messing up from. Auto Enginuity, sounds promising at least.
