Toz, the pumps where you live aren't calibrated? You can't read the gallons put into your tank at each full up and use the mileage since the last fillup? That is the best way.

The console is always wrong.

Depends how you use and drive it. I filled up at a gas station, reset the overhead trip and drove downhill and right onto a highway which was flat. I kept it on cruise at 90 kph until I got home, I got much to my surprise 23 MPG!!! I average 12.9 MPG city and average 19 hwy. Worse I ever got is when I installed a K&N filter was 10.1 MPG. I reset the computer by disconnecting the Battery and it got better.

I get 14.5 MPG avg with console or with calculator. Mix of city and hwy.

HEMI QC 4X4 3.92s w/ LSD

My overhead is very accurate as well. It's usually within 2/10 of my manual calculation. 14.5 is about what I get as well with combined driving. Usually around 17 or road trips.

ORIGINAL: NaviDave

That does not sound right.

Do you have 3.92 gears?

I read somewhere that Dodge introduced MDS in the 06 Rams because the Hemi had poor fuel economy on the highway with these gears.

I have found that fighting a headwind will screw you. Makes at least a 2MPG difference vs no wind at all.

Have you tried mid-grade fuel?

Dave
Its funny you say that, with the wind its exactly 2mpg a difference for me

Yesterday I took a drive into Maryland ,Mostly back roads .I filled the truck up with 87 and then we were on our way. Went almost 100 miles ,drove on the interstate for about 40 miles on the way back. Got 15.5 Driving around 55 to 60. except on the interstate took it up to 75 most of the way. 04 quad cab 4x4 Hemi. gas cost $2.09 per gallon.

I am continously amused by the different answers one always gets on these gas mileage threads. With the truck in my signature I usually average around 17 to 19 mpg with steady highway driving at around 60 to 65 mph, it hangs closer to 17 mpg on the Interstate at 75. My around town combined driving normally produces a figure between 13 and 14.5 mpg. I have manually calculated it several times and find no appreciable difference than what my overhead console shows.

I tow a 4800 pound travel trailer quite often and average beween 9 and 10.5 mpg with it, depending upon how hilly the road is of course, and I usually have the tow/haul switch engaged while doing this, again depending upon the terrain.

Some people say the console is always wrong computing the mileage, while others say, like mine, that it is correct. Still others say that the 3.92, Anti-Spin will decrease mileage, and by the book it should, but I would be interested to learn what the difference in mileage really is. Most 3.92's probably will also have 20" tires, so one needs to be sure that they are comparing apples to apples when looking at this as the 20" tires should also decrease mileage to a certain extent.

I can't explain why some Hemi's seem to get such poor mileage, a lot of it could be the way it is driven, but I have also saw many posts on this board by people that swear that they baby the vehicle and still get 10 to 12 mpg, it's beyond me. Another thing, I have never used anything but regular gas, in fact, I am about to tow my trailer down to Disney this week and am thinking about using 89 octane just to see if I experience any difference in performance or mileage, but there doesn't seem to be a problem as it is.

The fact remains, as many have already said, the Hemi Ram is not an economy vehicle, it wasn't intended as such, which brings me to this question; has anyone heard anything about the mileage figures for the new Hemi cars?

I just got my 05 1500 QC 4x4 hemi last week with 12k miles on it. I drive about 75% highway and 25% city and I am getting around 11.5 mpg!!! I am not driving crazy either. Please tell me it will get better with more miles on the engine!!! I thought I would be getting around 15 mpg but 11.5 is ridiculous. I am putting the 40 series flowmaster on it tomorrow and soon I will be adding a CAI. I hope this will help some.

I have an 05' quadcab 4x4 3.92 and 20's. I only have 1500 miles on it but am getting 10.5 mpg per overhead. I have noticed that if I reset the overhead before I get on say the freeway I get around 17-19 mpg which is not to bad. The reason Im getting such bad mileage is from warming up my truck. Its not garaged and pretty cold here and will warming up I think Im getting about 6 mpg. Once these rigs get moving I've never noticed anything below 13-14 mpg but while sitting idle my mpg drops like a rock.
