05 dodge ram 1500 original 4.7 engine had no egr valve , found a replacement 4.7 engine that had an egr valve. I was told you can still use the motors like this. So i let my mechanic swap the motors out he went to crank it today and said it backfired and blew the intake off. He is suggesting i have the wrong engine, any ideas?

 

So its sounding like the issue is with the reluctor wheel. Apparently chrysler makes a 12 tooth and a 24tooth that is throwing the timing off with the EGR vs no EGR motors. Any advice on how to this engine work with my setup will be great thanks
