exactly....only thing that will save you $$$ is a lighter foot. mods will never pay for themselves in gas savings.
I have installed both on my '03 Hemi powered truck. The K&N filter made the most impact on MPG but the Magnaflows combined with the K&N really sound great. If you back off your foot and use cruise control, you can get better MPG. I routinely get 18 on the highway with an around town average of 15. I like the rumble and know that I can open it up any time I want or need to. Good Luck.
Straight8, do you have a drop in K&N filter in the stock airbox or the K&N system.
I keep hearing that a filter upgrade will make the truck louder. I wonder why this is? Maybe some sort of echo affect from less restriction?

HemiB,
I have the K&N system in my truck. The intake noise is definitely louder, especially in the cab. I think the added noise is the result of taking the factory airbox and piping out. The OEM unit had longer tubes and the airbox itself had a cover. The K&N set up only has a short tube leading to the throttlebody and the open filter at the business end. When I stomp on it, you can hear the air being sucked into the throttle body and not much else! I hardly get on it any more because the novelty has worn off but every now and then...

You just said a KEY word for me Str8, the very word that keeps stopping me from buying a CAI, "novelty" I think I will just save my money on that, pick up a flashpack instead, and maybe just drop a new filter in instead....
Paintr,
My CAI kit actually gave me an additional 3 MpG. I put a ton of miles on my truck so it was worth it long term. Once the novelty of roaring away from every stop light wore off, I saw an increase mileage. If you don't "get on it" it really doesn't sound much louder than stock.
Good luck.
