Default Dodgr ram rough idlerough idle

I have a 5.7 engine which was working good until I added sea foam and octane booster suggested by a friend for maintenance purposes. Could that have been the cause of rough idle?

So it was running good and now it has a rough idle?

Moved your post to a separate thread. Welcome to the forum.

Mine had a rough idle after seafoam for the first 2 minutes and then a good pounding cleared it up and the truck is in Beast Mode!.

Hey guys,

tereso_862, welcome to the forum!

Just an FYI, as per the Owner's manual:

"The use of fuel additives which are now being sold as octane enhancers is not recommended. Many of these products contain high concentrations of methanol. Fuel system damage or vehicle performance problems resulting from the use of such fuels or additives is not the responsibility of the manufacturer."

With all due respect, todays gasoline is just as bad (if not worse in some cases) as most of these additives, but we work with what we have...manufacturers included. I use Seafoam as a cleaner every month-2 months and it DOES that, it cleans injectors, it cleans carbon off the valves & pistons and it cleans corrosion caused by ethanol from the fuel lines and there is a noticeable benefit in both the smoothness of running and cleanliness of the engine. Besides what money would the dealer and in turn Chrysler make if they couldn't diagnose problems themselves instead of the owner past the original warranty? We know how this works.

I also do NOT use Seafoam as an octane booster, if I were to use an octane boost it would be Toluene, the main ingredient in gasoline that raises the flash point (or octane if you prefer) But its much easier and effective to buy BP 93 Octane already mixed for my Super Chips tuned Hemi, its not the greatest gasoline probably but its cheap high octane and it feels better than the other brands despite having ethanol, again we work with what we have.

Dodge doesn't recommend any additives because there are too many to list that the company does not have the time nor money or even incentive to scrutinize on each engine & application. I bleed Mopar through and through and support them 100%, but them saying they don't support the use of these additives is to cover their butt more than any actual reason, for which I don't blame them. Hot Rodders have been inspiring the manufacturers since the 40s, and Seafoam has been proven to work by Hot Rodders & car enthusiasts with proper use and the Hemi doesn't mind it.

The reason mine ran rough was because of all the carbon that was cleaned out, after it cleared in a few minutes of driving the motor ran smooth and perfect.
