Winter tires?
Anyone here change there tires for the winter? I have the 20's on right now, but I have a spare set of 17's that I was planning on putting something a bit more snow friendly. Anyone have any suggestions for a good all around tire that handles the snow well? I'm from the NE area and winters get a bit rough... thanks in advance
I'm also curious to know if many people swap out their 20's for the winter season? I just got my truck late in the summer and was wondering how the 20's handle the snow. I'm from central NY where there is no such thing as a little snow.
well i cant just imagine how they will be in the winter, when around here they suck in the rain even(good ole iowa for ya) so i have my truck parked for the winter, been stored for about the last 2 weeks. i figure as long as i have another truck that will pretty much gop through anything, might as well drive it. as for tires, i've alwasy been a big fan of the birdgestone dueler revo. I had them on my 02 ram, and never had a problem. Best of luck to ya
all trucks hadle terrible in snow! i drove two winters with my factory goodyear 20's, and it handled great with 4x4, but not without. i don't know why anyone would buy a 2 wheel dive here in canada. i recently switched to "bf goodrich all terrain" truck looks tougher (like a 4x4), and handles awesome. i'll still keep it in 4x4 if there's snow. they weren't cheap though. $1500.00 (canadian) installed .
What makes a tire good in the snow? Open lugs are good for mud so they can clean themselves. Snow is slippery though, I'm not sure any tire compound or pattern would be better than another. The only thing that would prevent slipping would be spikes.
