Default Collapsed lifter

2005 ram 1500, 5.7 hemi 141,000 km
So i have concluded that i have a collapsed lifter on cylinder 2, exhaust side. Since it has to come apart i have decided to cam it while im at it.
Just a few questions, Does anybody know what the compressed thickness of the oem head gaskets are?
Also is there going to be any trick or special tool needed to detach the fuel lines? Any other info that anybody can share would be helpful to
I have included a short video showing the play in the valve.

Many times lifters collapse IE fail to pump up due to varnish. Marvelous mystery oil, may cure it. I have had it work on several occasions.

Mine had issues on the driver's side too.. every few starts it would make a horrendous sound and then go away... one time it didn't. Ended up changing my oil and running Marvel Mystery Oil. I have rarely any issues with it anymore. Just putting off replacing it until I move to Colorado late this year where i'll also be doing my timing chain, headers, cam, and that lifter all in one swoop.

Back in November my cylinder 2 exhaust valve collapsed, I tried to run marvel oil through but by that time it was probably already too late. I bought all my parts from Rock Auto, only changed one side. $4 for felpro exhaust manifold gaskets, $20 for one felpro head gasket, $25 for one side of head bolts.

Keep in mind when ordering head gaskets that there is a Left and a Right side specific gasket. The lifters were $100 per 8.

100 dollars for 8 lifters new from mopar? Holy cow that's cheap. In Canada, when I did my cam, lifters set me back 600 bucks for 16 and that was with a dealership discount. For a walk in customer they showed me them priced at over 1000...

Are you sure the lifters are Mopar.
I live in Boston and one day I needed a new tranny cooling radiator. So I made a trip to Kelly Chrysler In Lynfield parts department for a new cooling tranny radiator. While I was there waiting at the parts counter an Auto Zone delivery guy came in and dropped off 2 Dura Last rotors and brake pads. I guess someone was there for a break job and was not getting OEM parts. I never went back to that place again for parts.

Dealer Scam at its best!!

They're the Rock Auto Lifters, which could be named brand or mopars but I didn't see anything like that on the box it was cold out and I threw them in anyway, the job was easy enough and I couldn't justify paying an extra hundred for Mopar Brand lifters. I have used Rock Auto lifters in 3 other engines and have always had good luck. They seemed of great quality and I have zero issues with them and if any of you have seen my youtube videos I beat my truck daily and do foot ball field long burnouts.

They're actually like $97, up to you if you want to take the chance and buy non-mopar lifters, but since November my motor has been running great! My truck runs 0-60 in 6.2 seconds so they definitely aren't hurting anything

Default Lifter replacement due to loud noises when cold

First post but I have learned much from this forum. I too had the sound of a lifter coming thru the oil pan when cold. When it warmed up after 5 minutes it went away and was very quiet. First I thought it was the MDS system. Remvd intake and all tested good by removing, cleaning, then connecting to battery and the solenoid actuated correctly by the feel check.
Then I went further and removed heads/exhaust and had the lifters inspected at the shop that reworked the heads. Found 3 of 4 bad. After some research on the internet, I found the best deal on the 6.1 lifters thru Highhorseperformance. I went with the complete set for 289.95. I'm sure there may be some that are about the same price but they have excellent customer service and talked to the tech and he agreed with the diagnosis. There are many other lifter upgrades but I was leaving the engine stock. After gasket/bolt set and new prestone antifreeze, cause the green goes in the machine!!, I ended up with about $700.00 out of pocket, and lots of time lost doing something else.
Hope this helps someone else out.
Original sympton's were the loud knocking when engine cold. After replacing coil pack, injector, spark plug, and the low engine oil pressure fault, the lifter upgrade to the 6.1 fixed the issue. I lived with this issue for about 4 months and no significant damage yet.
Also, I had to disconnect the MDS pack at the connector behind the intake next to firewall on driver side. I havent bought a tuner to turn light off but just live with it.
This was done about 60 days ago and driven the truck over 5000 miles and no issues.

Can anyone say if the mopar performance lifters are better than the original ones that were in my truck? I can get them from jegs. Also crower sells some to that may be even better.

The Mopar lifters are factory replacements. Theres no difference between a performance lifter or stock lifter, they do the same job which is cushion the pushrod & keep the valvetrain self adjusted. How good they are & how they last depends on how good of oil you use and if your EGR & PCV valve are working properly. EGR & PCV varnish can make lifters stick & not pump up.

If you can get a good price on mopar lifters do it, otherwise I think you'd be more than happy with the quality of the Rock Auto lifters they sell. Mines been running strong since november.

ENGINETECH L5700 Lifters. 8 for $93.
