Default 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Transfer case fluid change

I've got a 2004 1500 with the NV243 transfer case. What size allen wrench is needed to pull the plugs out? I'm having trouble finding the size. I plan on picking up a new wrench set and want to make sure I have the right size.

Thanks in advance!

Default transfer case plugs 04 ram

Hope I can be of some help. Last time I did my transfer case I bought a little kit off of Amazon by Sunex tools. It is a hex configuration set of short sockets with 3/8" drive. I did not have room for a ratchet so I just used a pair of channel locks or vice grips or maybe even a pipe wrench? In looking at the set I see that the 10mm is the only one with any scarring on it. I am not sure that this is the correct one. The set came with SAE 1/4"-3/4" and metric from 6mm to 19mm. Do not remember why I used the 10mm; would have thought it would have been an SAE. Just went snooping in my tools and found an allen wrench I cut down when I was doing all of my fluids and it is a 3/8"

Just did a little more checking on your question and found some old questions on other forums and from what I am seeing it is a 10mm and the torque is 15-25 ft. lbs. Good luck! I do remember what a pain it was for me on mine with worrying about shearing off the plug. I remember I did the top one first just in case???

I changed the transfer case fluid in my 2007 Ram 1500 yesterday and as others said all you need is a 10mm allen wrench, 2 quarts of ATF+4 transmission fluid, and a big catch pan. Be carefull when removing the lower drain plug, because it is not very long, and the fluid wants to came out all at once. Don't ask me how I found this out.
But it was a lot easier than changing the trans filters and fluid. Felpro makes a great transmission pan gasket that fits perfect, so no more need for the form a gasket sealer mess.
