I know about that sight doesn't tell me anything related to the block i think the block number is different because of the pistons are shaped different but the same size trying to see if the bare blocks are the same..

The risk of an older 4.7 is going to be the way the crank and cam read the pickups. NGC and Non-NGC existed that year range 2002-2004 before they ALL went to NGC. As I recall there were some updates concerning the way the cylinder walls were lubricated and there was a timing chain and gear improvement.

If you got it hot, the heads are likely done for as well. They don't stand up very well on a 4.7.

The Mopar part numbers for SHORT BLOCK are different from 2003 to 2008. So is the price. But that's complete with internals.

The part number for 2003 to 2007 is same, but 2008 to 2011 is the same. This is consistent with what I'm seeing on the used search. 2008-2012 are showing up when you search the 2008 Ram. I would say stay 2008 and newer.

What would be "cheap" in your mind? Getting a later model salvaged would negate the machine work and gasket money spent.
