Default Cost to rebuild 4.7L?

Hey guys, my truck is getting up thee in age. I am having the rust above the rear tires and tail gate repaired and having her repainted this spring. I have 180k on the motor. Was wondering what it would cost to have the motor rebuilt? Or even replaced with a box motor. I might even look into the transmission. Not having any issues, but thinking future. Love my 04. She's been real good to me and plan on keeping her around a long time.

Best to call around some places in your area. Shop labor rates will be different depending on location and exactly how much you are rebuilding. i.e. a complete tear down to the block versus a valve job.

If you've been treating it right, there is no need to rebuild. These engines can go for a long time! I have no plans on rebuilding mine. Sounds very healthy and not losing any oil. I run full syn 5W30.

Knock on wood, I have not had any issues with the motor. I think the alternator is getting ready to throw in the towel but I feel a run of 180k miles is a pretty good run! No oil leaks and she's always had Mobil one running thru her veins. I plan on keeping this truck around a long time. Too expensive to replace with a new one when mine is in such great shape.

Yeah, these new truck prices are ridiculous. I just replaced my alternator too. It had to be the easiest alt replacement I'd ever done...about 15 minutes. Got a CARQUEST unit, with lifetime free replacement warranty from Advance. Even if I replace once every two years, it's so easy that it was worth going cheap.
