Default replacing Instrument Cluster 2005 RAM 1500

Newbie here. Not even sure if I'm posting this properly. Not sure of my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 generation.
My question: If I replace the instrument cluster myself on my truck, do I have to take it in to Dodge to have them program anything? I have heard both no, it's plug and play, and yes they have to program it with some special tool. Anyone have a definitive answer. Thanks, Chuck

So if you want to have a cluster with the correct mileage, you'll need to buy a new one and have Dodge program it.

However, you can buy any used one (for you, 02-05) 1500 and put it in, and it will have the mileage of whatever truck it came out of. Dodge, nor anyone can reprogram an Odometer.

I know this because I've replaced my Hemi cluster with an SRT-10 cluster.
