Default Rear Gear

04 Hemi Quad-Cab 4x4 rear let go @ 70 on the highway...not fun. Rear is toast and of course not covered by the recall!! So after wearing out the search function I headed down this path and I'd like comments please.

Find any (I mean any) compatible rear in the junk yard and have my local gear guy drop an Auburn in the new housing, I'm prepared to swap 2nd gen parts out with my 3rd gen rear. Just need help with what rears in other models (Different Ram years, Van, Etc...) will work. The junk yards are on to our situation with the 3rd gen and are selling the same rears for $1000 and up. I'm hoping someone here can give me specific years and models that will bolt up. Again not worried about changing the drive shaft yoke or welding on new bump stops...

Thanks for the help

If you want instant plug and play, go with any 02-08 1500 rear. You can use 2nd gen stuff but then you'll need to swap brakes. Make doubly sure whatever rear you find has the same ratio as your front diff.

I was going to suggest you put a PowerTrax in the rear end. I ran a Lock-Rite for several years until the springs got to weak and let it grenade itself at about the 80k mile mark. Put a PowerTrax No-Slip in a couple months ago.
