Default Overdrive slipping

Help, I own a 2005 dodge ram 1500 4.7l. I haul a 2500lb horse trailer with 3 horses loaded. Each horse close to 1000lbs. After my first haul the truck starts jerking around 40-50 mph. My husband is pretty positive it's the overdrive slipping. What do we do?

Take it to a transmission shop for a diagnosis.

It's probably overdrive kicking in and out. That's a lot of weight for the 4.7. I would suggest turning the overdrive off when towing.

Over drive when towing is hard on the trans. Check the fluid condition, is in dark red? Does it smell?

The torque converter locks at 48mph. Once it does, your speed probably drops below that, and it unlocks again, making it feel like it is slipping. Check to see if you have the tow mode on your model. In that mode it changes the shift point, and doesn't lock the converter until higher speeds. If not that, just tow with the overdrive turned off.
