Default Any heater core replacement tips? 2003 V6

So the heater core is going to need to be replaced on my 2003 3.9L V6 Dakota and the mechanic quoted almost $800 to do it so that's not an option and I've done one before on a Camaro so chances are I can do this one too. I've looked it up and am finding different opinions online for how difficult it is and can't find anything with detailed instructions. From my understanding the AC system needs to be evacuated to do the job correct? Would a Chiltons or Haynes guide have helpful info? Just any tips or advice or info in regards to tackling this project would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I found good detailed info somewhere on the net when I did a recerc door on my 03. Dash can pretty much be pulled back to rest on front seat to allow access to heater box. Not sure if ac needs to be evacuated??

I know there use to be a complete set of pictures of dash removal on dodge diesel forums. Use google see what's pops up. Diesel forum also has thread on heater core replacement " the quick way to change heater core"
Good Luck

Best bet is to find the factory service manual (it's on here somewhere), download it. Very detailed. I can tell you from personal experience you are in one for one helluva pain in the ***.
