Default 2003 dodge ram 1500 motor

Hi, looking for advice. The motor blew in our 2003 dodge ram 1500. We had it towed to the shop. We have been hunting for a motor that will fit and we're told that it could come from other dodges but not clear on what years or vehicles. Some say durango, some say dakotas, but unclear on which ones and which years. All I've been told to look for is a 4.7l, 32 tooth tone ring, and without egr. Does anyone know which other vehicles I can look at? Thank you in advance. This is just so confusing and overwhelming.

Some where in 03 or 04 ??? Dodge changed 4.7 crankshaft tone wheel from 16 to 32 teeth. The tone wheel is attached to the crankshaft. I am pretty sure computers where changed as well? So it is imperative you get the proper engine or it will not start or you will have problems with rough running/starting. Without researching trying to get information I can't help you.
Google airramdotcom guys name is Nick he is very knowledgeable on this type of engine. If there is anybody that can help he can!
Good Luck

Surprised the shop that is working on it can't help guide you to the correct motor. Makes me wonder about their competency.

I agree. They have had the truck at the shop for almost 4 weeks, but yet haven't really helped us find a motor. Frustrating
