2004 Dodge ram 1500 5.7
hopefully somone can help me out. A few weeks ago i bought a 04 hemi dodge 4x4. It has only 130,000 miles with one owner soo i thought it would be a great purchase, i have put almost 1500 miles on this truck and out of no where the trust just started ideling rough on start up revimg no higher than 1500 rpm and showing a battery symbol at the bottom right hand corner on the dash. I can turn it on and off repeating that process two or three times until it finally stops and then runs like a brand mew truck.
I also am experiencing a problem with the steering column shifter. At times on start up it doesnt want to leave park, until i put the transfer case ( floor shifter) into neutral. After i put the transfer case in neutral i can trop the trans into neutral and them go back down to 2wd high and then i can go to reverse drive etc. it stays in the garage until i go to work soo im almost posative nothing is frozen. Maybe somone can help me out. Thanks for reading

I have an '04, same truck. May be able to help. However your opening post is convoluted.
- rough idle, low rev, resets when turning the truck off then back on. Possibilities: MAP sensor, Throttle position sensor,
- the battery symbol thing if it actually looks like a lightning bolt, it is not battery symbol it is electronic throttle and/or ignition/timing light. Possible throttle body position sensor or crank position sensor.
- if it is a battery symbol light - What level does the voltmeter show when this is happening? Are the lights dimming, bellsAbinging. Are you having to charge the battery to run the truck? Possible alternator failing.
- Is the check engine light on? Have the DTC codes read by a scanner and come back here with those.
- transmission shifter does not come out of park unless you push the brake pedal first. Ensure you are pressing the brake. If you are, check if the brake switch, the brake lights, is working properly. The transfer case manipulations is a red herring, tcase has nothing to do with shifting of the transmission - other than you pushing the brake pedal when fiddling the tcase ****.
