Default LSD or not.

Hi,

Anyone have a quick and easy way to find out if an LSD is fitted?

I don't have the glove box sticker with the info on it as in a previous post and the Carfax report don't have the LSD option even listed.

Help a newbie .............[sm=chattypair.gif]

Cheers.

Stick it in drive, stomp on it, and see if you get one tire mark or two. Better yet, take it to a parking lot, turn the wheel all the way to one side and try the same...

If you have a jack, jack up the rear (both sides suspended) and spin one wheel. If the other goes in the opposite direction, you have limited slip.

Or you can just look at the sticker on the rear axle tube out near the wheel. It will be there if you have it.

Or (since we seem to be collecting ways to check), jack up one wheel... preferably a rear , put it in neutral, and release the parking brake. Try to turn the wheel in the air. If it turns, no limited-slip.

Lsd=posi

Back in the day mopar called it SureGrip. Look at the guts once, all 3 work the same way, a clutch pack that locks the 2 halves of the differential together (yes that's over-simplified).

I just got a Detroit True trac installed Friday. After the break in period i'm going to see how much abuse it will take on some "tire dangling" trails. It should be a marked improvment over the factory LS.
The good news is that when my factory unit came out there were none of the fragments of metal like so many others have reported.

Anyone want to buy a "used" LS unit?
