Default is this of concern? singing diff

05 1500 5.7 all stock
3.55 Rear Axle Ratio, anti-spin

bought this a few weeks ago. had crappy tires and i didnt notice this til i put quieter tires on.

i can hear a very very very very faint “howl” around 50mph+ mostly while accelerating, let off the throttle and i think the noise goes away (hard to tell). in order to hear it the radio needs to be off, the wind has to be calm (no wind noise), nobody can be talking, hvac fan speed has to be off.

past experience suggests this is a differential noise, not sure which diff. i serviced the rear lsd diff a few weeks ago with amsoil and mopar friction modifier, but as i said above, my tires are now quieter so i have no idea if this is new or not.

previous owner did have the pinion nut recall done.

normal?

That is not a linited slip diff. I would reservice the rear with the correct gear lube called out for an open diff and see if you hear any change.

glove box and build sheet says anti-spin 3.55. i put amsoil 75-140 along with a bottle of mopar friction modifier in the rear.

Ok, as per the specs you listed it was a standard Corporate 9.25 LD axle, which is not a limited slip.

I would say it's probably just fine. If it starts to get louder, maybe then its a problem.

I have the same diff in my 03, and it makes the same amount of noise you're describing after a rebuild. Maybe more noise than that.

I also have two Super Dutys that do it as well. And a work truck that's pretty noisy in comparison.

If it was me, I wouldn't sweat it, unless it gets louder or is accompanied by vibrations not associated with the u-joints.

Don't spend $1000 for a rebuild, just to get the same condition you already have.
