sludge on Oil fill cap

The old stuff in the Ram, since it's all I could get in that weight locally. Synth in a couple others and a blend in the bike. Diesel grade regular in the oldies. Racing regular in the race cars.

I'm useing dino, Valvoline 5w-30. And I drive 14 miles to work, one way so I would think that is sufficiant to burn off the condensation.

I have sludge in the refill compartment and on the baffle. Wiped away as much as I could? Somebody told me this was water in the engine, but it sounds like I need a new baffle and oil cap.

Barely. Even though the water temp is up by then, you still run the risk of the oil not getting hot enough to turn the water to steam, so it can be sucked into the PCV valve and burned. I, too, have a short commute. In addition to 3K oil changes, I take him out on the interstate a couple of times a month for a nice, long gallop.
