intermittent high rpm idle and driving.

i have had this high rpm issue slowly getting worse through the weeks. initially began with idle rpms jumping from 600 to 1300, so i cleaned MAF, idle air sensor and throttle body plate. i also replaced all spark plugs with factory standard, the gap from the old ones were a whopping .060 to .070 which gas mileage went up a bit, they were in bad shape. so now when i drive rpm jump from a coasting 1600 rpm to 2100 rpm at 60 mph. after reading some say trans slipping but could this easily be a TPS going bad? if i remove TPS while running engine immediately goes from 600 rpm to 1300 rpm, its not until i hit the gas and bring it up to 3000 rpm where it will settle back to 600. the random idle spikes stop but if i touch the gas pedal again while still unplugged it will stay revved at 1300. anything helps please. i haven't drove with TPS unplugged, i was unsure if this would cause any damage trying to diagnose this.
