Default 5.7 hemi block difference

Hi new to the forum but heres the question. I bought a 2006 ram 2500 with the 5.7 hemi. Long story short now its knocking. Question is my grandfather has a 5.7 hemi block out of 06 durango. Can i swap blocks or are they different?

Same basic engine. Big difference here will be the fact that the Durango engine will have MDS and EGR; can't remember if the 2500 5.7 has EGR or not. Regardless, you have two avenues, you can pull the heads and replace the MDS lifters with non-MDS lifters and then pull the solenoids and replace with block plugs OR leave it all alone, default position for MDS is off so as long as you leave the solenoids in the lifters will function like normal (as long as you aren't going with a bigger cam). If your truck doesn't have EGR, then you'll have to block it off. If your truck has EGR then you're good to go.

I was thinking my heads don’t have the mds system in place it would be easier just to swap heads and drop in the engine

LMAO!!! Ok, ok lol...if you don't know how these engines operate, maaaayyyyyyybe you shouldn't be ripping them open. MDS is not in the heads. MDS involves a specific set of lifters (not in the head) and solenoids (also not in the head).
