Default Burning smell from vents

What about the a/c compressor not working? My blower works fine and changes speeds fine but I have a smoke smell and no cold air compressor isn't engaging but has no smokey smell ?

Driving down road and smoke started blowing out of vents. Smelt like burning wires but was cold. Next day no A/C but blower works fine and cycles through all speeds just fine. What's inside the dash that would control the A/C compressor clutch. It's not engaging at all and there's no smokey smell under hood at all. Everything else with truck works fine. Any ideas of what's going on??? 2006 dodge powerwagon
