Default Speaker setup

Looking for some advice on speaker setup in the 05 quad cab or crew cab. Haven’t ripped the doors apart yet to check for myself but from what I understand the dash speaker holes are 3.5”, front doors are 6x9’s and rear is 6” but you can get 6.5” with drilling holes. Is this correct? My question is sound wise isn’t it better to have 6x9’s in the rear and smaller 6.5” mids in the front? Just bought JL C2 650CX(6.5” with 3/4” tweeter and crossovers) and TR690TX(6x9’s) and was wondering if the sound quality would be decent with having the 6.5” in the rear doors, 6x9’s in the front and the 3/4” tweeters mounted in or on the dash? Going to use the head unit to power them for now but have a JL320.4 amp to power them once it all gets wired up. Also have the custom box in the rear under the seats that holds two 10W3V3 subs which guessing I’ll have a 500w-1000W amp running them. Going for clean clear hard hitting sound but want to make sure it’s all placed properly as well.

If you put the 6.5 component woofer in the rear door then you'll need to run a long speaker wire from the crossover to that speaker. I think that would be a lot of unnecessary work. I recommend that you save yourself some trouble and return the 6x9s for some 6.5s. Adjust the low and high crossover for rear speakers to about 100hz and 16khz or so and play with it to get staging.
I put in a Clarion XC 2410 amp for my four speakers and it sounds very good. It's compact and fits in the glove box easily. I think it is small enough to fit behind the center bezel, under the radio. I've got an 8 inch Skar sub in closed box under the front seat.

Unfortunately these aren’t speakers I’m able to return and swap for others so stuck with what I have. With the crossovers those are just for the tweeters are they not? That was my understanding for them anyways. If so I can just omit them or toss them in the rear door no?

Also if I put the crossovers in the dash behind the deck wouldn’t it be easy to run the tweeter from there?

So have this thing apart and seeing what’s up now. 6x9’s went in no problems. Now the 6.5” are seeming a little to large. Won’t sit flush with the door to bolt in. Anyone have any links on how to mod it to get it in short of cutting it out if possible? Or am I SOL and looking for 6”?

The crossover sends high freqs to the tweeter and low freqs to the woofer. In the front, you'll be fine, the 6x9s just wont be getting the high freqs. YOu should filter the high freqs to the rear woofer. It wasn't designed for high freqs, but you can filter at headunit, amp, or inline crossover.
I looked at your 6x9s, be sure to test them before putting the door panel back on, they may be too deep.
Would it help to put a spacer ring between door opening and speaker? Will it not sit flush due to size of opening or depth of speaker?

The 6x9’s are in and sounding pretty good. Not as distorted as the factory speakers which is nice. Removed the rears until I get my situation sorted due to difference in quality. Can really hear it from front to rear and was getting annoying lol. The 6x9’s are 3 way so it’s all built into the speaker. It’s my 6.5’s that would need the crossovers but they aren’t seeming to fit without adjustments of some sort. Not sure what kind of clearance I’m looking at inside the panel after it’s on. If there’s quite abit think of making an “o” out of wood so the sit out further but can be mounted to the wood which is mounted to the door. Have a good feeling I’m not looking at that much clearance though lol. Hoping I’m not having to get new speakers at 6” when supposedly 6.5” will fit just a different screw pattern. Can live without the crossovers and without tweeters and just wait to get some 3.5” ones for the dash.
