banging down shift

I have a 2011 ram 3500 heavy duty one ton. When i use tow/haul empty shifting is fine. When i pull my 35 ft. 5th wheel on occasion the tow/haul down shift bangs loudly. Why the hard downshift? And why is it only occasionaly?
