That is called a pinion seal. Nut holding the yoke to the pinion can be very tight. You need to ensure you obtain the correct preload when the nut is reinstalled...once the new seal has been installed. Some guys put a mark on the nut and a corresponding mark on the pinion as a reference to obtain correct torque.

pinion seal. you will need a puller to remove the flange yolk from the pinion. impact wrench and compressor would make things easier. I would also want to have a dial or beam torque wrench to measure the total torque to rotation to ensure the pinion torque is set correctly. Some people just mark it and put it back a little tighter. I like to measure it.
