Default Service 4wd light - actuator question

2004 ram 1500 quad hemi -

My service 4wd light has come on. Searches show various problems and I'll begin diagnosis this week. Are there any more common issues to look for? Wheel speed sensor, faulty wiring, actuator etc. ? I even read somewhere low coolant ??

Secondly, I've begun a search for the "4wd actuator" and no part shows up? I'd assume when I turn the 4wd dial, there should be some type of actuator on the transfer case?

Thanks in advance for any help !

Mark

Update:

2004 ram 1500 quad hemi -

Each time I start the truck, after about 15-20 seconds, the SERV 4WD light comes on. It doesn't matter if I take off driving or sit with it in park or shift to drive and not move, the light comes on after about 15-20 seconds.

Irregardless of whether the light is on or not, when I turn the dial from 2 to 4wd, I can hear the actuator going in and out. I can confirm, If I start the truck and turn the 4WD on (while light is out) that 4WD locks in. Then 15-20 seconds later the light comes on. I can't confirm if the 4WD stays engaged as I turn it back to 2WD.

Thanks again for any ideas / help!

Update 2:

So, the problem is solved. I'll start by saying "Always check the basics first". I noticed the overhead "computer" (compass, gas mileage, distance til empty) was not working. Went under the hood to find the 10 amp fuse blown. replaced it and ALL'S GOOD!

I kinda feel like a fool for not checking this before I posted, Sorry.

A couple days earlier I reattached my rear view mirror. I have hotwired into the mirror for my radar detector using one of these.

I am gonna assume, I shorted out the fuse attaching the mirror and caused all my headaches. Anyhow, maybe this helps someone in the future.
