Default Low beam and license plate light issues

I have a 2005 ram 1500 5.7 and I am having problems with my passenger front low beam not working and my driver rear license plate bulb is flickering as well?? I have after market head lights and sometimes my lamp light out light would come on when I started the truck. I simply flash my high beams on then go back to low beams and it would go off. Now I have had these in for a year without issue until now that my one low beam will not work. I have changed the bulb twice with tested working bulbs and I know not to touch the bulb itself. My next thing will be checking the fuses which I have to locate still. I am no electrician and know the basics only so any help in detail is appreciated if its not the fuses what is my next few steps? I keep seeing something about shimming the FCM??

Hi, I have a 2005 Ram 1500 5.7L. I have aftermarket headlights in and Xenon bulbs. Now I put these in about a year ago and ever since when I start the truck my lamp out light would come on I just flashed the high beams on then off and the lamp out light would shut off. RECENTLY my passenger front low beam stopped working and my driver side license plate light is flickering. I have tried replacing the bulb as it was blown when I removed it. I used two different tested bulbs and nothing, next I went to the fuse box all looked good, thirdly I checked my ground and wires all seem good. Now what should I do next??? I keep seeing FCM and PDC, but I know nothing about either or how to go about it. Single mom trying to avoid a heavy bill from a shop help me out guys!!

Thank you for the advice. I have checked all the wires and the ground all look good so I will test for power as soon as I can get a voltmeter. I keep reading about people removing the FCM and having the lights work again, but stop once its bolted down fully again. I read that if they put shims under so its not fully bolted that the lights continue to work.

there are not fuses as the power is supplied from the front control module. I would check for power out of the front control module, you should have full battery voltage..if no power, the fcm is bad. if power is present ohm check the wiring from the module to the light. check for spread terminal pins at the headlamp connector.

haven't heard of shimming the the fcm...what will that do?

I would bet money your FCM failed my 04 Ram did the same thing. I tied the circuits together at the FCM till I could get it repaired properly. I ordered an FCM off ebay with matching part#s and it was plug and play

Wiring should be checked to verify but these FCMs seem to be a pretty common failure

I'm thinking you are right. I checked all the wiring yesterday looks good. I do have a ton of extra wiring and fuses under my dash from the previous owner getting a little carried away with their amps and stereo system and disc changer. There is even a train horn under the hood that has its own motor and compressor, but it doesn't work of course lol. They had a light bar on the back, which kept causing my rear brake light to fail so I replaced it all with aftermarket leds and haven't had a problem since. I do think its something to do with the FCM because it is only one side low beam and the opposite side rear license plate light flickering like there is a connection, but not a good one. Looks like I will have to find a video on how to remove and trouble shoot the FCM see if I can get it working before I spend money I don't have to spend. Thank you for the help much appreciated.

Added note, I checked the wiring with a voltmeter and all the grounds and wires were good, but the low beam, wire did not have as high of a voltage and was difficult to get a read from.

if you checked for power at the headlamp connector and did not have power at the low beam...either the wiring from the fcm is open....ohm check it from the fcm connector to the headlamp connector

...or the fcm is bad...check for power coming out of the fcm by backprobing the low beam wire with a quilting t-pin or clamp onto the wire with a "bed of nails"
