Hi folks,
I have a 2003 3500 6speed man 5.9 cummins. Lately everytime i get in the truck the transfer case selector switch has a mind of its own, no matter where i have it set. For instance if the switch is set to 2wd the lite on the switch may be on 4x4 ,or neutreal. Sometimes the little lite is not on at all. Sometimes the lite actually corresponds to what the transfer case is actually set at. This morning i got in it and it was showing 2wd and when i got to where i was going it was still in 2wd. When i got ready to leave 10 min later it was in 4x4 . i've checked the wiring, plugs ends and sprayed everthing with wd 40. Any Suggestions

Drawing from experience with digital switching and not from having experienced this specifically, I might suggest cleaning the contacts inside the selector switch itself with contact cleaner (auto section at walmart. I use a lot)

I can guarantee it is the actuator on the transfer case. Disconnect it immediately before it shifts into 4Lo at highway speed! When these go bad they will shift randomly even with the key out of the ignition.
